Dusk

There are too many names to remember

Even the faces I'll soon forget

They all fade together into the dark of my past

And it's only the darkness I'll remember

I want to hold onto something

The sweetness of youth and the light of love

But one goes sour and the other dims

Before I've tasted the best it offers

Or truly seen its beauty

Now dawn is the only part of the day

Holding any promise

And dusk is all I pray for

As it welcomes me back into its familiar embrace.
